Yeah, plenty of us (Amercians) know about and LOVE Manu Chao...
I even spin some of his stuff from time-to-time at my gigs.
And it's no surprise to me that he's not touring out here. It's gotta be either two things; 1.) he is refusing to out of protest 2.) U.S. security/customs profiling

M-P, I feel your pain. You have no idea how badly I wanted to get to Buenos Aires last November!!

But I didn'tget to Argentina until last February :(

Oh well, we just have to coordinate winter vacation breaks with Manu this year ;)

here missed the gig of Manu Chao in 2001 when he played in town, had a ticket but forget when i buy it i'm was that time in NYC spending my holiday.
Hopefully he return soon in Netherlands for any gig, saw he was announced to play at the Belgium Rock Werchter festival.

Buy recently the DVD "Babylonia en Guagua" and its really amazing, except the gig are there few nice extra's like a roadmovie from Radio Bemba SoundSystem tour in Europe 2001 and Genova G8 protests.

Seen here only Roy Paci and Aretuska playing few times, they also really amazing with thier Sicillian maffia ska (like Roy Paci describe his music).
  • Rainin in Paradize on the official website as a free download www.manuchao.net/

YouTube footage of Manu and the band's rehearsal of the song at Coachella this year (preceeded by a snippet of Bienvenida a Tijuana)

    • From the official MySpace site (great for up to date concert dates :) www.myspace.com/manuchao

Manu Chao is putting the finishing touches on his eagerly awaited first new studio album in six years. Chao has written, composed and produced the album. Final mixing was made with help of Mario Caldato (Beastie Boys, Jack Johnson); Andrew Scheps (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mars Volta) was involved in some few tracks too. The as-yet-untitled recording is slated for release on September 4th.
      • hey Jacques, thanx for the update about Manu's new album. waiting really already ages for his album after he toured 2 years ago last time in Europe. Really nice to hear Mario Caldato was on board to mix some stuff for the new record, he done before great recordings already with Beastie Boys, Beck and Michael Franti's latest album.

          That was AMAZING!
Better than last year. All the mexicans in Tijuana were singing their hearts out. What a great vibe! I love the Tijuana Bull ring for concert. Ticket cost was 25, presale were $16.00

Next: Ojos Brujos in LA. Wish they were playing in TJ.

Yaah! I was thinking of you and SD folks when I heard they canceled the Embarcadero show. Glad to hear Tijuana worked out soo much better :D

I didn't make it to any of the shows last year, but I can tell you the intensity of the show at the Roseland was much higher than any show I've been to in recent memory! It was 95 degrees by the time we entered the hall and the floors were literally rockin from everybody jumping up and down to Manu! ;D

Full review coming up. Curious to know at which point in the concert he sang Rainin in Paradize at other shows, cuz we seem to have missed it being about 15 minutes late entering the show. Also if he did Me Gustas Tu at other shows?

Me gustas tu was sang in Tijuana, I feel I missed Rainin in Paradise as well.
The percussionist did a wild dance and song (ooh sexy man he is) as an encore. We kept thinking the show was over and here he came back with guitar only or only 2 instruments accompanying him ( Manu). It was awesome) One of the best shows I have ever been...

              Crazy time when he "quietly"sang
              Bienvenida Tijuana, bienvenida mi amor....
I think the crowd would have sung it for him if he let them. Getting the chills all over again just thinking about it! It was Perfect.

Oohh, the percussionist's number. They were singing in Arabic of which the lyrics I swear are those that form part of the chorus in Baila Maria by Alabina (or some folk song on which it might have been based :) Cuz I found myself singing along to it! :D

I can only imagine the reception Bienvenida Tijuana received in TJ! The loudest the crowd sung along to was Clandestino. You definitely could hear the entire hall sing along to it!

Hey, that's interesting that you guys mighta missed out on Rainin in Paradize as well. I am loovin this tune, it grows more and more on me everyday, I can almost memorize the lyrics in time for the next concert :P

Haven't had the time to see the video yet, but I think it's now online on the site as well.
